internet girl
i've been in love w/ the internet since the geocities days in the 90's and i made my first personal website in the early 2000's. i grew up on neopets, gaia online, palace chat, irc, xanga, and myspace. for me, the internet was a portal to another reality. one that was easier and more fun to navigate than real life. when i was younger i wasn't very good at socializing but somehow being online made it feel easy to express myself and make new friends. in middle school i started to form more social connections irl but it was at a time that they could blend quite beautifully with the digital world. i'm quite fond of the xanga and myspace era because they encouraged honest self-expression and individuality. i find modern social media to be stifling and soul draining for a lot of reasons that i will probably write about in more detail at some point.
